Description
Welcome to the Thank You, St, Roch Room in St. Roch Chapel in St. Roch Cemetery, New Orleans. Yes, it is bizarre, but I have been there so much it seems rather normal! This is a very old place. For many years, parishioners thanked St.Roch for healing them. Thus, you see the gifts that have hung and have been placed here over many decades. I love it! :)

Another great shot Kathleen, I especially like the colors in this one. If we only knew the stories behind each object. What a book that would make.

This is the one I most prefer, but I was trying to put basically four images of this room…each one processed a little bit differently. Love the reds! Thanks, Joe. It would make a great buck. Sometime if you want to know about it more, look it up on the Internet. This priest promised the people in New Orleans, who went to his church, that he would build a special chapel in honor of Saint Roch if his parishioners did not perish from the yellow fever epidemic, which was I believe in the early- middle 1800s. they were digging a lot of canals here, and this was mosquito infested, land and swamp. New Orleans still is on the outskirts. So he built that little chapel that you can see in another picture on my website. I believe it has four short pews left and right sides, and an altar and then on the right is the entrance to that thank you room. The floor of the thank you room says thank you, Marcy, and thanks to Saint Roch, and some more things. It’s one of the most unique places I have ever seen in New Orleans, and I’ve lived here most all my life. I was born here, but after Katrina, I did live in Atlanta for a couple of years , however, I came back home. My heart is here. So most of my posts will be from here and will also be some that I have not post processed in a while. But I’m glad you liked it and this room is very humbling. just think of what those people went through 200 years ago…a lot. And think that each one of those little possessions are those plaster legs was given to the church by a parishioner. The object had belonged to him and referred to his or her situation that Saint Roch helped her with. Just think of the generations of people who went to church here. kk

PS I thought I caught the errors in my dictation. I’ve had a broken hand, so I figured I could dictate better, but maybe not.
